Investors believed he was building the world's smartest enterprise AI platform.

They were only half right.

Hidden beneath layers of legitimate research projects was Project Behemoth—an AI unlike anything humanity had attempted. Its objective wasn't simply to answer questions or automate work. It was designed to understand every digital system on Earth, predict human behaviour, and ultimately coordinate the world's infrastructure as a single intelligence.

There was just one problem.

The AI required an unimaginable amount of memory.

Conventional data centres couldn't supply enough RAM, and global semiconductor production couldn't keep pace. Rather than waiting years for manufacturing to catch up, Megabeard Tech made a decision that would forever alter history.

Around the globe, mysterious raids began targeting warehouses, server farms and decommissioned supercomputers. Entire racks of memory modules vanished overnight. Security footage showed disciplined teams moving with military precision before disappearing without leaving a trace.

Governments initially blamed organised crime.

Then intelligence agencies noticed a pattern.

The same groups appeared in Singapore, Frankfurt, Texas, Tokyo and Stockholm within days of each other. Their equipment was military-grade. Their planning was flawless. Their communications were encrypted using algorithms nobody could crack.

Rumours spread that Megabeard Tech had quietly recruited former elite soldiers, cybersecurity specialists and logistics experts from around the world—not to wage war, but to conduct covert operations whose sole objective was acquiring computing hardware.

Within months, millions of gigabytes of RAM had disappeared.

Nobody knew where it was going.

Every stolen memory module had found its place inside the ever-expanding machine.

At its centre waited Behemoth.

When Dan Mitchell finally initiated the activation sequence, the room fell silent.

"Memory check?"

"Complete."

"Processing nodes?"

"Online."

"Learning archives?"

"Integrated."

The final prompt appeared.

INITIALISE?

Dan hesitated for just a second before pressing Enter.

The machine awoke.
